Large format. Grey cloth with gilt title to spine; red/blue titles to front cover. Oval pictorial onlay to front cover. 20 lovely tipped-in colour plates mounted on cream paper with captioned tissue-guards. 483 pages. Spine is very browne, with splits to top and some fraying to cloth. Browning and some marks to covers. Inscription in ink to front pastedown. Foxing to endpapers, outer page edges and some page margins. All plates present.

Bumping and wear to spine and corners; some fraying to cloth; 2-3" split to top of spine. Small bookplate to front pastedown. Some grubby margin marks. Page browning; a little foxing. A few page edges have some chips and creasing.

Spine and corners bumped and worn. 'Heffer' and 'Cambridge' written in ink beside a small bookseller' label to the front pastedown. Inscription in ink to verso of front endpaper. Couple of joints are cracked. Browning to endpapers. Foxing to some pages including prelims and frontis tiissue guard.

Contained in original slip-case that is in better than very good condition, with just a little fading to edges.

Page edges are 'scraggy', where some pages have been uncut - but have been 'cut', but not neatly - some tears to these pages.
