The Belgian industrial town of Charleroi was served by two of Europe's most characterful tramsways. Traditional two-axle trams still ran in the 1970s and then became part of the local network of the celebrated Vicinal, extended in 2012. This wide-ranging book explores the colourful history of the two tramways since 1940, with insight into the political and economic problems which lay behind their decline and partial revival. Red pictorial cloth, black titles. The contents are divided into five sections, four covering the British fighting zones from north to south, the fifth covering the "back-areas". Each of the five sections are preceded by a short survey of the War history of the region as a whole. B/w photos accompanied by a paragraph of information relative to the particular locality. Boards nevenly faded with a few minor stains. Pencil erasure marks to front endpaper give the page a grubby appearance. Front and rear hinge pulled but binding tight.
