Grey cloth with gilt titles to spine and front cover and green and orange decorations. Top edge gilt. 48 tissue-guarded mounted colour plates and fold-out map to rear. Part of the A & C Black 20 Shilling Series. 1-2" split to top of spine; some fraying to cloth; other horizontal tear across top of spine - partially repaired with glue. Browning to spine. Bumping to corners. Some scuffing. Front joint is pulled. Newspaper cutting has been stuck to the rear pastedown. Some browning and foxing.

The rarest of the Black's 20 Shilling Series. Assumed early edition/reprint in same year as 1st edition - as has 4 page booklist to rear. Spine is browned with a few chips and splits to top; some fraying to cloth. Corners are bumped. A bit of scuffing to rear cover. Inscription in pencil to front endpaper. Joints are starting to crack a little. Some foxing and browning.

Assumed early reprint, as 1st printings were not produced with the 4 page booklists to rear. The booklist is dated Spring 1905. Spine and cover edges are browned. Front cover is a bit bowed. Spotting and some chipping to rear cover. Name in ink to front endpaper. Foxing and some grubby marks to contents. Plates are clean.

Additional 4 page booklist (dated Spring 1904). A & C Black Colour Book in the 7/6 series. Circa date is taken from the booklist to rear (dated Spring 1904). The 1st printings of this title did NOT have these 4 page booklists, but assumed an early reprint in same year as first. Bumping and wear to spine and corners. Spotting to covers. Browning to spine. Prelims are roughly opened - one b/w plate has margin tears/ragged edges. Small nick to edge of frontis. Some foxing and browning.

Possibly published in same year as first, but first impression didn't contain the 4 page booklist. Spine is browned, with a little fraying to cloth at top and tail. Front joint is BROKEN! Only partially held on by a little stitching at top; this means the binding is weak/fragile. Page edge browning, with a few grubby marks.
