This book reproduces in size and in the fold-out format of the original copy of Utamaro's 'Momo-chidori kyoka awase' in the collection of The Metropolitan Museum of Art. To accomodate the left-to-right tradition of the Western reader, the sequence of illustrations has been reversed, however the Japanese verses should be read from right to left. Green cloth boards, white title label to front board. Boards have no spine as book opens concertina style. Colour illustrations in facsimile. B/w illustrations to rear. ISBN: 0870992805. A lovely copy, contained in publisher's slipcase which is lightly faded to spine and lightly knocked at top & tail, foxing to top edge.

The Tailor of Gloucester, as originally written by Beatrix Potter, was three times as long as the small edition published by Frederick Warne and Company which her admirers know so well today, and she was reluctant to have its text cut or altered. However, even in the privately printed edition, which she published herself, she was obliged to sacrifice some eleven hundred words and in the Warne edition that followed, a thousand words were deleted. This is a printed trade edition of the original manuscript and pictures with all the cherished nursery rhymes included and all the whimsical details retained. Produced with the assistance of the Free Library of Philadelphia, owner of the original manuscript and pictures. Cream pictorial boards. Full page colour illustrations. 9.5 x 7.5" ISBN: 0723210985.
