Red boards, gilt vignette of train to front cover. Large colour and b/w illustrations throughout. Easy to read text. 36 pages. 8.5 x 7.5". Spine and corners bumped and slightly worn. Covers slightly grubby and with little indentation marks to fore-edges (teeth marks?). A brown spot to page edges/margins and some light foxing and fingering. Blue crayon marks to pages 4&5 otherwise contents clean.

A highly unusual rendering of 33 Old Testament stories by the author, who has fused the individual stories into an account of the development of the scattered Tribes of Israel, who were to build the Temple in Jerusalem; suffer a decline, culminating in the destruction of the City of Gold. Each story is re-told with vigor from a different contemporary perspective, as would have been the case in the earliest oral traditions before these stories were written down. A Carnegie Medal winner. ISBN: 0575028831. Minor foxing to top edge of text block and endpapers. Pictorial dustwrapper is lightly edge-worn.
