As the close of his life approached, Swinburne often expressed his desire to extract from his various volumes those poems addressed to children. He died without doing so. Edmund Gosse has brought together this collection of Swinburne's poems which are concerned with infancy. Rackham's delicate and romantic illustrations are a perfect complement to the text. 8 colour plates plus b/w text decorations. Dark green cloth with gilt titles and vignette to front cover. Green/white decorated endpapers. 133pp. cr 4to. Spine and corners bumped and slightly worn. Covers rubbed. Endpapers lightly browned and foxed. Contents clean.

Full vellum binding with gilt titles and decoration. Large, heavy format. SIGNED by Wilcox and Tennant to limitation page, this is copy no. 178. Cover edges and spine are just a little grubby. Silk ties are missing. Name and date in ink to front endpaper. Untrimmed page edges are dusty and there is some very light fingering otherwise contents are clean. 1 plate has a very light crease to a lower corner, all others present and fine condition.

Bound in attractive brown leather with gilt titles, vignettes and borders. 30 lovely tipped-in colour plates mounted on cream card with green decorative borders and captioned paper guards. Top edge gilt, others untrimmed. This is copy no. 22, SIGNED by the author. Corners are slightly worn and covers a little edge rubbed. Spine has been professionally rebacked retaining the original spine piece (which is worn). A few light fingermarks and tiny foxspots else contents clean. A very nice copy of a handsome and very scarce book.
