Cloth spine. Pictorial front board shows two children, two cats and two dogs. Colour & b/w illustrations including double page spreads in colour by Aldin, and two b/w pages by Rackham. Spine has slight loss at top and 2" loss at base. Corners are worn, covers slightly edge rubbed. Foxspots and fingermarks to contents. Old tape marks to inner margins of frontis and title-page and old tape repairs to last page. Prize plate to verso of title-page (which is the belongs to page). Some margin tears.

Foxing and fingermarks to contents but generally they are clean. Joints are cracked but binding still tight.

Front cover has vignettes of cats with central pictorial onlay of a cat tailor sewing on a patch. 12 wonderful colour plates and numerous b/w drawings - all of cats! 136 pages plus 4 page publication list. Spine and corners bumped and worn with slight loss of paper covering to lower front corner. Some light wrinkling to paper covering on covers. Name in ink to front pastedown. Foxing and light fingering to contents, light pink stain to inner margin of last plate (affecting the illustration slightly). A very desirable copy of a scarce Wain title. This copy would make a wonderful gift.
