Green cloth with gilt title to spine and light green title and vignettes to front cover. B/w illustrations throughout. All edges gilt. Bumping and wear to spine and corners. Spine darkened and gilt dulled. Covers slightly grubby. Front joint and a few hinges cracked. Prize plate to front endpaper. A couple of corners creased. Some grubby marks to contents, most to pages near front of book. Some browning and a few fox spots.

Red cloth spine. Cream pictorial boards. Pictorial endpapers. Colour and b/w illustrations. Spine and corners bumped and rubbed. Spine is a little faded. Couple of deep scratches to front board. Light marks to rear board. Board edges a little scuffed. Name plate to front pastedown. Endpapers browned. Rear endpaper torn by margin with some browned taped mending a couple of tears. Both joints badly cracked showing webbing beneath. Some hinges cracked. Browned tape to hinge of several pages including frontis and title page. One colour plate is creased. Some fingering and page browning otherwise contents are generally clean.

Embossed booksellers stamp to top corner of front free-endpaper, lower corner of same page creased. Some light foxing but the contents are very clean.

A delightful Victorian book. Spine and corners bumped and worn. Covers are grubby and marked. Both joints cracked. Some damp damage to contents, two pages have been stuck together on bottom margin, now torn apart causing surface paper damage to last line of text and a few other pages have surface paper damage or tears to bottom edge. Large 5.5" tear to one illustration. Ink inscription to front endpaper. Numerous pencil marks to contents. mostly short lines to blank pages. Grubby marks to contents.

Front and rear joints badly cracked showing webbing beneath. Some hinges cracked. One plate is loose and has ragged edges. Foxing and browning especially to prelims. A few light marks otherwise contents generally clean.
