Green cloth. A narrative of a voyage by Nelson Cole Haley, Harpooner in the Ship Charles W. Morgan 1849-1853. Spine lightly browned. Minor foxing to endpapers. Text block browned. Pictorial dustwrapper is edge-worn with a few chips and grubby to rear panel.

In November 1820 in the middle of the Pacific near the Equator a whale rammed and sank the Nantucket whaleship Essex. The first documented sinking of a ship by a whale, the incident was the beginning of one fo the most harrowing survival feats in maritime history...
