Four children who set off, at the invitation of the King, to join their parents in the land beyond the Blue Mountains. On the way they meet various characters, both good and bad, such as Mrs. Discipline and her father Mr. Penalty, Fungus the Ferryman, Mrs. Steadfast, Mrs. Modesty and Charity the guide. An allegorical tale reminiscent of Bunyan's Pilgrim's Progress. Green and blue pictorial cloth, gilt title blocks to front cover and spine. 6 full page b/w engravings plus chapter head and tailpieces. 191 pages. Spine and corners slightly bumped and rubbed. Front endpaper browned. Small price label 'awarded in connection with Chums Empire Map Scheme' on front pastedown. Small foxspots to endpapers and half-title page otherwise the contents are beautifully clean and bright with all plates present. A super copy of this title, exceptionally rare in first edition.

Large format. Red cloth with gilt titles and vignettes. 109 pages, all edges gilt. Full-page and text illustrations in b/w throughout. Spine and corners bumped and slightly rubbed. Covers just a little bit grubby. Front joint cracked. Some very slight fingering to page margins. A tiny nick to edge of rear pastedown. A lovely copy of this attractive book.

Lassie, the prize dog of a cottager's household is sold to a wealthy family when hard times befall her original owners. Taken hundreds of miles away, she does what many collies have done before her, she starts for home so that she can be faithful to a duty - that of meeting a boy by a schoolhouse gate. Brown cloth, dark brown title to spine. B/w illustrations, colour frontis. Endpapers are maps of England and Scotland. Front joint split exposing mull holding cover to book. Minor foxing to outer page edges else contents clean. Pictorial wrapper is worn, chipped at edges and torn with brown tape repair to verso.

Endpapers are browned, but rest of contents lovely and clean, apart from very occasional margin mark.
