A narrative adaptation preserving the exact dialogue of the opera. A tender and beautiful Christmas story, warm and humorous about a crippled shepherd boy who entertains the Wise Men on their way to Bethlehem. Blue boards with black titles to spine and black vignettes to front cover. Colour and b/w illustrations. 86 pages. Slight wear to base of spine and light marks to cover edges. Light foxing to textblock and foxing to first few and last few pages too. Name in ink to half title-page else contents clean. Dustwrapper is slightly edge worn and torn and just a little grubby.
Front cover shows Father Christmas, with a pull-tab that moves his eyes and lips etc. 8 text pages. Last two pages are a large pop-up Christmas scene. Moveable pull tab to front is damaged, with some repair. Couple of tears to 'beard' and creasing, Pull tab still works, but is fragile. Inscription in ink to top of first page, with grubby marks to some margins. Gift page has child's writing on it. Large pop-up to rear is generally very good - split to paper where pop-up opens - some creases.
