Nearly fine condition in a slightly better than very good dustwrapper.
The author trades a busy life in academia to take on a croft on the west coast of Scotland. Black cloth boards, white title to spine. Colour photos. 284 pages. ISBN: 9780008278373. A lovely copy. Pictorial dustwrapper is a little worn with surface paper loss to lower front corner (very minor) and just lightly scuffed.

Nearly fine condition in a slightly better than very good dustwrapper.
New Naturalist No. 70. 2nd state - light green boards, squared spine, orignally produced to be bound as a paperback and bound as hardback by publisher, slightly smaller than first state 8.5" rather than 9" tall. Colour and b/w photos. In his tracing of the island's evolution from its geological creation to the effects of oil technology; in the detailed, yet fascinating exploration of the plants and animals (and where best to see them), Professor Berry's expertise and enthusiasm is backed by that of local specialists, and Orkney's long tradition of natural history study. Appendices include definitive lists of all the species of flora and fauna on record and an extensive bibliography. ISBN: 0002190621. Text block very slightly grubby. Contents fine. Pictorial dustwrapper is very slightly faded to spine and very lightly browned to rear panel with minor marks. Overall a decent copy of a scarce item.

A run of parts I to XXIX. Pictorial cardwraps. B/w illustrations of flowering plants that occur naturally in the British Isles. An almost complete run of 29 volumes, parts 30 & 31 missing. Volume I is a first edition, 1948... Volume XXIX is a first edition 1972. Almost all copies covered in clear laminate, some of the older copies have tape to spine (under the clear laminate). Covers are browned. Neat name in ink to top of front covers. Front endpapers have a small, neat identification number. A few hinges are pulled. Contents are otherwise clean.

Contained in the publishers matching slipcase which is starting to split at top and tail open edges, lightly faded (sunned) to open edge and lightly bumped at corners (Generally, VG condition). Overall, a lovely copy.

White pictorial dustwrapper is lightly edge-creased and has a few minor chips, closed tears, and is a little grubby.

Wayside & Woodland Series. Maroon leatherette covers with gilt titles and vignettes. First series - comprises The Superfamilies Caraboidea, Palpicornia, Staphylinoidea and Diversicornia. Second Series - comprises - The Superfamilies Clavicornia, Heteromera, Lamellicornia, Phytophaga and Rhynchophora, and Including the Strepsiptera. Colour and b/w plates with numerous text figures and diagrams. Speckled text block. Series two has a minor knock to lower front board. Top edge of text block lightly browned. Front endpaper of both volumes has an 'Acc no' written in ink to top (neat). Contents clean. Pictorial dustwrappers are edge-rubbed with a few small splits, slight fading to spines, slight grubbiness to rear panels. Overall, a lovely set.

Two volumes. Large format. Blue/grey cloth spine with gilt title, blue cloth boards. Volume I: 4 color plates of eggs, 56 color plates of birds. Vol II: 4 color plates of eggs, 51 color plates of birds, appendix and index. Colour plates have tissue-guards. Top edges gilt, other edges untrimmed. Ex-Lib with bookplate to front pastedown of both volumes and card pocket to rear pastedown. Not dated. A few marks and scuffs to boards, crinkling to cloth on rear board of volume II. Edges are lightly rubbed, corners are bumped. Endpapers & text block browned. Volume I: Egg plates are MISSING, plate 11 is detached but present. All plates otherwise present.

The colored plates herein are Sample Copies of the plates which form the illustrations of "The Butterflies of the West Coast," by the same author, and these plates in sets are now offered as an abridgement of that book. Burgundy cloth boards, black title to front board, spine is untitled. 32 colour plates. Spine lightly faded and shelf-worn to top & tail. Boards have some marks, giving a grubby appearance. Endpapers & text block browned. Front joint just starting to crack. Contemporary gift inscription in ink to front endpaper. Some browning to contents. All plates present.
