A roll of assisted immigrant arrivals from Somerset and Bristol during the years 1839-1854, also describing conditions existing in the county at that time and the factors influencing emmigration. The need for immigrants in the Colony, the financing of immigration from Colonial funds, and the vessels chartered and the conditions during these voyages are described. Light brown boards, gilt title to spine. B/w illustrations. 336 pages. ISBN: 073160136X. Lower board edges rubbed and slightly faded. Vertical crease to free front endpaper. A few minor foxspots to text block. Pictorial dustwrapper is faded to spine and unevenly faded to front panel, edge-creased.

Front joint is cracked (between endpaper and title-page). Contents are foxed and slightly grubby. A nice copy overall.

Large format. Blue cloth, gilt titles with gilt vignette. 40 tissue-guarded tipped in colour plates. xxiv and 143 pages. Unfortunately the spine, rear cover and lower spine corner of front cover have been 'touched up' with some kind of blue ink (no idea why - sorry). There is a light damp stain to the edge of the front cover. One plate has a couple of tiny edge chips and another has a tiny piece of surface paper rubbing. There is some foxing to the contents. If it wasn't for the 'touching up' of the covers this would be a very good copy.

Inscription in ink to front pastedown. Contents are browned (particularly to endpapers and plate mounts (plates themselves still bright). A couple of plates have light corner creases.

SIGNED by Cecil Aldin on small piece of white paper which has been tipped onto the title-page. Cover edges are slightly worn, splits to spine. There is some loss to the top edge of the rear cover. Some light stains and creases to covers. Some light fingermarks to page margins and some light foxspots but generally contents are clean.

Small piece torn from lower edge of rear free-endpaper where it is stuck to the pastedown. Contents clean. Spine slightly bumped. Dustwrapper is slightly rubbed at spine and corners with slight loss to base of spine.
