Dinham, Llanfair Discoed, Llanvaches, Penhow, Langston, Llanmartin, Llandevaud, Wilcrick, St. Brides Netherwent, Llandevenny, Magor, Redwick. Llanwern, Bishton, Undy, Rogiet, Llanfihangel Rogiet, Goldcliff, Whitson, Nash, Christchurch. Large marks to front and rear cover - look like possibly oil or water marks. Some browning to cover edges. chipping to corners. Foxing to spine. Foxing to outer page edges and some pages internally. 'Caldicot Part II' written in light blue felt pen to spine.

Re-issue. 119 artistic colored plates (lithographs) representing the different species and varieties drawn and colored from nature including a copious text giving a popular account of their habits and characteristics, based on observations made in the field by the most eminent writers on ornithology prefaced by a systematic table and index to page, plate and figure. Very large format. Full red morocco binding with gilt title to front and spine. All edges gilt. 182 pages plus index. Spine faded, edges rubbed, a few scuff marks to front & rear board. Corners worn. Front joint between title page and frontis pulled. Some scattered foxing. A few closed margin tears. Some grubby margin marks (fingering). All plates present and beautifully bright.

Volume 1 (all published). Large oblong format. Three quarters burgundy leather with cloth sides. 42 handcoloured plates including title page by Alken, many in his sporting/equine style. Marbled endpapers. All edges gilt. Includes Symptoms of a Preface page. Boards worn, faded and marked. Joints cracked but binding still tight. Inscription in ink to verso of first blank page. 41 of 42 hand coloured plates present. Frontis has been expertly repaired/relined. Probably a rebound copy as the tissue guards have watermark dating 1865. Plates wonderfully bright but grubby marks to margins and slightly affecting plates. Overall a nice copy of a weird and wonderful item!
