Special Edition. Red cloth boards, decorative front board and spine. Gilt titles. Bevelled edges. Embossed pattern to rear board. Four tissue-guarded steel engraved plates to front. Many b/w illustrations throughout. viii and 320 pages. Spine faded and worn at top & tail. Rear board a little marked. Text block browned & foxed. Bookplate to front endpaper. Joints starting to crack but binding is tight. Foxing present, mainly to tissue guards, a few spots to contents. Hinge between page 152 and 153 pulled wide to lower half but tight.

Brown leather spine and corners, red title label with gilt title. Raised bands to spine. Green marbled paper boards. Folding map of the UK to frontis plus 6 folding maps. Index to the Direct Roads from London. Coach Directory, list of inns throughout the Metropolis from which mail and other stage coaches depart. Index to Country Seats. 946 pages + 3 page booklist to rear of publications by J. Cary. Rebound with new boards, new leather, new endpapers. Some professional paper repair especially to map of UK which is missing a good portion of the UK (see photo). Text block heavily browned, contents also heavily browned and with foxing, some damp staining to margins, some more so than others, text is legible. All plates present with browning and foxing. Overall a good copy for a book 200 years old.
