Originally written under the pen-name of Mary Pollock in 1940, this edition re-issued in 1949. Green cloth, cream titles. B/w text illustrations. 96 pages. Ink inscription to front endpaper. Faint grubby marks to rear endpapers. A couple of pen marks to text block. Text pages clean. Dustwrapper is edge worn with a little loss from ends of spine and folds. Panels slightly grubby, pale browning to spine and folds. Cup ring and some browning to verso.

Blue boards, black titles and vignette to front. B/w illustrations. Spine very slightly bumped. Fading to spine and to front cover edges. A few light fingermarks to page margins and a couple of page corners creased. Dustwrapper has large vertical tears across both panels and has been repaired with 'magic tape' (on front), there is a small piece of loss to lower edge of front panel. The wrapper has been neatly mounted onto stiff paper. A scarce Blyton in decent condition.

Contents which are in very good condition but have a slight musty smell. Dustwrapper is edge creased, has a couple of small closed tears and small areas of loss. Also slightly grubby with a browned spine. Reverse is foxed.

Light wear to cover edges. Name and address in ink to half-title page. Dot-to-dot on page 73 completed. Page 96/97 have some surface paper damage. It looks like at one time, the pages got a little damp and the pages were stuck together next to spine. Now some of page 97 (illustration page) has stuck to edges of page 96, making a 1" hole in illustration, so affecting illustration to verso of page 97. Rest of contents are excellent. Pictorial wrapper is a little edge-torn and chipped, with only a couple of small chips of loss.
