With a prelude by Richard Wagner. Translated into English by Margaret Armour. 34 beautiful tipped-in colour plates, covered with captioned tissue-guards. Text in a play format. Some wear to spine and corners. Browning to endpapers and outer page edges; a little foxing. Wrapper is worn and scuffed along edges; creased with some tears and chips; a little loss to top of spine. Some marks to wrapper.

Browning to endpapers, pastedowns and page edges/margins of green pages. Light foxing. Wrapper is edge-creased with tears and chips; a little loss; some grubby marks and foxspots.

Blue cloth with beautiful gilt illustration to front cover and highly decorated spine. 12 superb colour plates plus 16 black-and-red plates and numerous b/w text illustrations. Large format. All edges gilt. Spine bumped and cloth faded but gilt remains fairly bright. Corners are bumped and rubbed. Couple of little bumps to board edges. Some marks to covers. Both joints are cracked showing webbing beneath but binding remains firm. Dated inscription in ink to half-title page. Foxing to endpapers and some pages otherwise contents are clean. Plates are all present and in very good condition.

Small neat ink name and address to top corner of front endpaper. Repaired tear to inside margin of contents page. A couple of hinges cracked. All plates present but two partially detached and crease to corner of plate opposite page 210. Some browning, mainly to half-title page and last page in publication list. Some foxing throughout.
