Red cloth with gilt title to spine. gilt illustration of the toytown train on front and rear cover. Colour plates, some double page spreads. A play in three acts. 9.75 x 7.5 inches. Vertical crease to spine and spine lightly faded. Corners of boards lightly bumped. Vertical mark to front board. A few pin-holes to front edge of spine. Joints starting to split at top & tail. Text block lightly browned with some foxing. A few minor margin marks but contents generally very nice and binding is tight. Slight loss to lower corner of rear free endpaper, vertical crease to same.

The only children's book by the author of Cold Comfort Farm. Gerda, a little girl who is taken prisoner by the Elves and kept in a cave with an old gnome, is rescued by the princess of the fairies. Beige cloth, red titles and illustration to front cover. 180 pages. Two-colour text illustrations throughout. Spine bumped, some very slight darkening to lower edge of front cover. Name in ink and small embossed booksellers stamp to front free-endpaper. Contents clean. Dustwrapper is browned, chipped and torn to front edge of spine with loss at top and tail of spine. There are splash marks to spine of wrapper. A nice copy of a very scarce children's book. This copy would make a wonderful gift.
