Almost very good condition.
Blue cloth with beautiful gilt illustration to front cover and highly decorated spine. 12 superb colour plates plus 16 black-and-red plates and numerous b/w text illustrations. Large format. All edges gilt. Spine bumped and cloth faded but gilt remains fairly bright. Corners are bumped and rubbed. Couple of little bumps to board edges. Some marks to covers. Both joints are cracked showing webbing beneath but binding remains firm. Dated inscription in ink to half-title page. Foxing to endpapers and some pages otherwise contents are clean. Plates are all present and in very good condition.

Red pictorial cloth with white titles to front cover, gilt to spine. 8 b/w plates. 280 pages plus 8 page publication list. Spine bumped and worn with a couple of tiny splits to cloth, also faded. A little bumping and wear to corners and tiny bump to bottom edge of front cover. Both covers are marked, light stain to front cover below title. Small neat ink name and address to top corner of front endpaper. Repaired tear to inside margin of contents page. A couple of hinges cracked. All plates present but two partially detached and crease to corner of plate opposite page 210. Some browning, mainly to half-title page and last page in publication list. Some foxing throughout.

Small green pencil mark to rear endpaper. A little foxing to page edges. Light browning to some pages. Tiny ink spots to margins of pages 90 and 91. Contents otherwise are generally clean. Slight musty smell to book. Dustwrapper is edge worn with a couple of small tears. Spine is browned and the wrapper is grubby and marked. Verso is browned.

Covers creased and worn, small closed tear to top edge of front cover. Scribble to elephant's head on front cover, surface paper damage to centre of rear cover. Light marking to a couple of pages from light dampstain. Some creasing and wear. Staples rusty. All strips present. Some illustrations slightly off line.

Some scuffing to cover edges. Grubby marks with some erased pencil marks to covers. Title page has small margin tear and is browned, with a little foxing. Colour illustrations are in beautiful condition - nice and bright, just a few foxspots to page margins. Last page (which is a plate page) has a large repaired tear.
